KitzSki presents the five best ski runs – the Big 5 range of descents all the way into the valley. Anyone looking to experience true freedom on the slopes should put our Big 5 to the test. The variety of skiing options in our Kitzbühel|Kirchberg ski area will leave you feeling amazed. From beginners to seasoned pros, there’s something for every winter sports fan in Kitzbühel | Kirchberg.
Discover our spectacular Kitzbühel | Kirchberg ski area. Let us present our Big 5. Big 5 – KitzSki Extended: the well-known Maierl downhill run is called the Kaser and forms part of the longest descent in the Kitzbühel | Kirchberg wider ski area at 8.3 kilometres.
KitzSki Extended – Kitzbühel’s longest downhill run
At a fantastic 8.3 km long and an altitude of more than 1,000 metres, the KitzSki Extended piste boasts an unparalleled panoramic view. KITZSKI EXTENDED = 16a :: 16 :: 26 :: 25b. The new Maierlbahn cable car provides access to one of the most beautiful ski runs in the Kitzbühel|Kirchberg ski area and offers outstanding levels of comfort. As the first 10-passenger monocable gondola lift in Austria, the Maierlbahn cable car sets a new milestone.
What’s more, the cabins, which feature floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows on all four sides and are large enough to accommodate ten people comfortably, are 20 cm taller than customary 8-passenger cabins. This is particularly beneficial when people board and alight the cable car and makes the cabins feel more spacious. Lower speeds through the platform also make it easier for passengers to get on and off. The platform is easily reachable via an escalator and has an extra-long boarding area. Additional features improving passenger experience include comfortable upholstery and heated seats.
“Comfortable, modern and stress-free”: The Maierlkette transports passengers at twice the speed – from the valley to 1,800 m on the Ehrenbachhöhe in just 11.25 minutes (excluding connection time). In contrast, it took around 24 minutes to ascend the mountain using the old Maierl lifts. The new Leitner ropeways system is also much more cost-effective. Compared with an 8-passenger ropeway, each cabin has a 25 percent greater capacity. Despite this, the procurements costs were just 10 percent higher and the system uses 20 percent fewer gondolas. This not only affected the initial investment of 9.6 million euros, but also has a positive impact on the servicing, maintenance and cleaning of the system.
The new 10-passenger monocable gondola marks the start of a new era in modern, comfortable and stress-free boarding. Like the Hahnenkamm, the Kaser thrills skiers with its spectacular slopes and can be reached by taking the new 8-seater chairlift (3,300 passengers per hour, with heated seats and a weather protection hood) to the Ehrenbachhöhe. From here, visitors can enjoy skiing down the entire length of the Kaser. “The new Maierlkette not only offers the highest levels of passenger comfort, but also serves one of the most beautiful skiing areas in the Kitzbühel Alps – the Kaser,” said Dr Joseph Burger, BAG Board Chairman, delighted by his company’s achievement.
